Small Wins, Big Deal

As summer edges toward its unofficial curtain call and pumpkin-spice season starts making its way to centre stage, it’s tempting to measure the past few months by big milestones. Did you finish that home renovation project? Take an epic road trip? Finally figure out what that mystery button on your barbecue does? Or spend quality time with all twenty-seven of your cousins? It’s easy to celebrate the big wins, but if we’re honest, the smaller victories are often just as satisfying; the kinds of wins that don’t make your Instagram reel, and rarely involve celebratory cake, but do make us feel like we’re moving forward. They show up in different shapes for different people, and sometimes the ones that matter most are the ones only you notice.

For Authentic Blues, small wins usually come from self-improvement. It could be finishing a book that’s been sitting on the nightstand just waiting to be picked up, going for a daily walk, or setting aside some time to do something creative like drawing, writing, or playing music. Wins also show up in connections, like having a conversation that goes beyond small talk, or supporting someone in a way that feels meaningful. Authentic Blues take notice of progress that adds depth, whether personal or professional, and they find a win with steps that might seem tiny to others, but are actually pretty significant. There’s a subtle joy in knowing that, day by day, they’re moving toward becoming a better version of themselves.

Inquiring Greens, on the other hand, tends to celebrate wins in moments of clarity. It’s not necessarily about conquering a giant problem; sometimes it’s just figuring out a better approach, understanding how something fits together, or finally making sense of a tricky situation that’s been nagging at them. It could be as simple as untangling a workflow that’s been slowing them down or coming up with a better strategy for a project. Inquiring Greens usually experience these victories quietly; there’s rarely a need for an audience. The satisfaction comes from that internal lightbulb moment and the feeling that something now makes sense where it didn’t before. Even small breakthroughs count, because they help everything else fall into place more smoothly.

Organized Golds find wins by creating order, but not just at work. While ticking items off a to-do list or organizing a mess can feel rewarding, small wins usually show up in the everyday activities that make life run smoother. It could be meal-prepping for the week, fixing that dripping faucet, tidying the garage, or remembering to take an umbrella in case the sky opens up. For Organized Golds, these moments of order give a sense of calm and stability, not just for themselves but also for the people around. There’s a quiet thrill in taking something messy or chaotic and turning it into something manageable, and that kind of win carries weight in its own understated way.

Resourceful Oranges find wins when their skills for being adaptable and making quick decisions in the moment are put to the test. It could be catching the train at the last second, finding a clever workaround when plans go sideways, or turning a boring task into a bit of a challenge. The core of a small win for Resourceful Oranges is successfully navigating something unpredictable; and bonus points if they have fun doing it. There’s a certain spark in realizing they made the best of what they were given, whether it’s a sudden change in schedule, an unexpected obstacle, or simply finding a better or creative way to get things done. These wins feel immediate, tangible, and energizing, leaving behind a subtle boost that carries into the rest of the day.

Small wins don’t usually get parades or certificates… or cake, but they’re what keep our days from feeling like a slog. They provide momentum, a sense of accomplishment, and give us a gentle reminder of why we’re doing the bigger things in the first place. Whether it’s a moment of personal growth, a flash of clarity, a bit of restored order, or a clever solution in the midst of chaos, noticing these wins can quietly change how we experience life. Late August, with its mix of low-key days and half-hearted gearing up for fall, is as good a time as any to pay attention. Take a moment to notice what went right today, even in the smallest way. Chances are, there’s a win hiding in plain sight, and acknowledging it can make all the difference in how the rest of your day, or week, goes.
