We recently had the honour of facilitating an engaging Personality Dimensions® workshop at YWCA Hamilton, seamlessly paired with our Christmas & New Year team celebration. Alongside a joyful gift exchange, laughter, and shared reflection, the workshop sparked meaningful conversations about how personality styles shape communication, collaboration, and support in our Employment & Training space.
“The workshop sparked meaningful conversations, self-reflection, and a deeper understanding of how our personality styles influence the way we communicate, collaborate, and support one another… Understanding ourselves better helps us show up more intentionally for our clients, adapt our approaches, and strengthen teamwork across roles.”

A Brief History: From Ancient Temperament to Personality Dimensions®
The concept of temperament has a lineage that stretches back over 2,500 years. Early thinkers like Hippocrates linked human behaviour to four bodily “humours”—a proto-psychological idea suggesting that individuals possess innate behavioural tendencies. Modern personality theory built on these early frameworks and, through the work of numerous theorists over centuries, established the foundations of contemporary temperament models. The discipline of temperament theory further evolved with the work of many psychological thinkers, including Carl Jung and David Keirsey. Jung introduced psychological types shaped by cognitive preferences, and Keirsey later advanced this into a practical four-temperament framework that connects behaviour, communication, and motivation patterns.
Personality Dimensions® builds on these historical roots and brings temperament theory into an accessible, interactive format. Developed in Canada over decades of research, the model uses four colours and descriptors—Inquiring Green, Organized Gold, Authentic Blue, and Resourceful Orange—to help individuals better understand their natural preferences and behaviours. It combines over 25 centuries of temperament insights with modern learning and development principles to create a self-discovery experience that is both approachable and deeply reflective.
This rich theoretical backdrop makes the workshop not just a team activity but a shared journey into understanding how innate preferences influence our daily interactions, decision-making, and collaborative work.
The Joy of Collaborative Facilitation
For many years, I delivered Personality Dimensions workshops in Pakistan as the sole facilitator, as co-facilitators were not available in that context. Over that time, I had the privilege of working with diverse audiences at institutions such as:
- L’Ecole
- Nixor College
- Karachi School of Business & Leadership (KSBL)
- GUTech (German University of Technology), Pakistan
Each of those experiences enriched my appreciation for how self-awareness tools can strengthen communication and teamwork across cultures and professional settings.
Facilitating with a co-facilitator for the first time—Rene Morrison—in Hamilton transformed that experience in new and powerful ways. Rene’s presence brought complementary perspectives, real-time reflections, and dynamic interaction that enlivened every part of the session.
Together, we were able to:
- Expand the depth of dialogue and learning
- Provide participants with multiple voices of experience
- Model collaborative reflection in real time
- Respond to questions and group needs with agility and shared insight
This co-facilitation elevated the workshop beyond what any single presenter could achieve alone, reaffirming the value of collaborative delivery.
Connection, Growth, and Team Energy
One of the most rewarding aspects of this workshop was the sense of shared energy and connection among participants. It wasn’t just about discovering temperament colours; it was about learning together, laughing together, and celebrating the year as one team. The reflective discussions and mutual support expressed across personality styles highlighted the strength of a people-centred workplace culture.
It is moments like these—where learning intersects with joy and team cohesion—that remind us of the profound value of investing in self-awareness and shared understanding.
A special thank you to everyone who participated with such enthusiasm and openness, and to Rene Morrison for her partnership in creating such a thoughtful and well-organised experience. Your positive energy made this workshop truly memorable.
